Selangor declares special public holiday following Sukma victory

Selangor has declared a special public holiday on 1 September 2026 to celebrate the state's success at the 2026 Malaysia Games (Sukma). Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari announced the holiday following the closing ceremony, where Selangor emerged as the overall champion for the first time in a decade.

The state contingent secured a total of 245 medals, including 101 gold, 73 silver, and 71 bronze, with swimmers contributing 20 gold medals.

The additional holiday extends the Merdeka Day break into a four-day weekend spanning from 29 August to 1 September. Under the Holidays Act 1951, the holiday applies to government offices and schools within Selangor, while private-sector employees are advised to consult their specific employment arrangements.
