Selangor directs local authorities to identify vacant land for urban agriculture

The Selangor state government has directed local authorities to identify vacant pilot lands or reserves to optimize urban agriculture and prevent these areas from being occupied by foreign nationals.

Datuk Izham Hashim, the Selangor Executive Councilor for Infrastructure and Agriculture, stated that identified lands can be applied for lease to support community gardens or private sector programs. This initiative aims to manage urban vacant land more systematically while generating income through high-value agriculture. The Selangor Agricultural Development Corporation (PKPS) will also be involved in implementing organized agricultural programs.

To support these efforts, the state government provides up to RM5,000 for community garden projects, covering costs for agricultural inputs such as fertilizer, seeds, and equipment.
