Selangor Islamic Religious Department considers police checks for teachers

The Selangor Islamic Religious Department (JAIS) is considering a new recruitment and testing process for teachers to prevent sexual misconduct in religious schools. JAIS Director Shahizan Ahmad stated that the department is looking into requiring all teachers to obtain police clearance as part of a more stringent selection method.

To implement these security audits, JAIS plans to consult with the police. Additionally, the department is discussing guidelines to regulate interactions between students and teachers. Proposed measures include stricter separation protocols and prohibitions on certain behaviors, such as teachers providing special favors to students or meeting them at unusual times or in unmonitored settings.
