Selangor Malay Reserve Land increases as India legal and textile updates emerge

In Selangor, Malaysia, Chief Minister Amirudin Shari announced that Malay Reserve Land has increased to 403,391 acres since 2018. This follows concerns regarding the degazetting of 55.401 acres in Tanjong Karang for the Sabak Bernam Development Authority (Sabda) project. To compensate, an equivalent 55.401-acre area in Ulu Selangor was gazetted as Malay Reserve Land.

In India, the Supreme Court addressed a land dispute involving Shastra University. The case concerns 31.37 acres of allegedly encroached government land in Thanjavur. While the university's counsel suggested providing alternative land or paying market value, the court questioned why the government could not accept alternative land given the existing educational facilities on the site. The Tamil Nadu government maintains that government land encroachment cannot be permitted.

Additionally, in Erode, Tamil Nadu, Handlooms Minister Vijay Palaji instructed Co-optex management to procure more fabrics from primary weaver cooperative societies. This directive aims to clear existing stock and increase the availability of powerloom products and new linen and Kora silk varieties at Co-optex outlets.
