Selangor speaker to announce vacancy of state assembly seat this week
The Speaker of the Selangor State Legislative Assembly is expected to finalize the status of a vacant DUN seat within the coming week. Chief Minister Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said legal advisers are preparing a note on the matter, and the announcement will be made by Speaker Lau Weng San.
The decision on whether a by‑election (PRK) is required will be taken by the Election Commission of Malaysia (SPR), not by the state government. Shari emphasized that the state will respect any outcome based on the legal provisions.
The vacancy stems from allegations that the incumbent assembly member has been declared bankrupt, which could disqualify him from holding office. No official confirmation of the member’s identity has been released, and the speaker has not yet informed the SPR.
