Sele river bank modifications reported in Italy

The Carabinieri Forestali of Capaccio Paestum have reported a man from Eboli for making unauthorized modifications to the right bank of the Sele river. The individual allegedly constructed two access ramps into the riverbed to facilitate water extraction for crop irrigation.

During the investigation, authorities also discovered significant quantities of non-hazardous special waste abandoned along the river course within the Foce Sele-Tanagro Regional Nature Reserve.

Claudia Pecoraro, the regional environmental assessor, emphasized that riverbanks are critical components of soil defense and hydraulic safety systems. She warned that arbitrary interventions can compromise water flow and structural stability, affecting local agriculture and ecosystems. Pecoraro called for increased maintenance, prevention, and responsible management of water basins to ensure territorial safety.
