Select Operadora de Planos de Saúde fined R$ 7.2 million in Brazil

The Maranhão Consumer Protection Institute (Procon-MA) has fined Select Operadora de Planos de Saúde R$ 7.2 million due to irregularities in health service provision and its accredited network in São Luís.

The administrative decision followed an investigation triggered by consumer complaints regarding changes to the provider's assistance network and service interruptions. Procon-MA noted that the company failed to provide requested clarifications or documentation and did not attend a scheduled conciliation hearing.

Identified irregularities include issues with the maintenance and replacement of the hospital network, lack of transparency, failure to meet service offers, and abusive practices. The ruling emphasizes that the operator cannot transfer administrative or financial risks to beneficiaries.
