Selma police investigate two weekend shootings
The Selma Police Department is investigating two separate shooting incidents that occurred over a weekend in Selma, Alabama.
The first incident took place on Saturday, August 22, at approximately 10:12 p.m. in the 1500 block of Martin Luther King Street. Officers discovered a vehicle that had crashed into a railroad crossing signal. Inside the car, they found a 19-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound to the torso; he was pronounced dead at the scene.
A second shooting occurred early Sunday, August 23, around 2 a.m. in the 1200 block of Alabama Avenue in downtown Selma. Investigators found evidence of multiple shots fired, and one individual was injured and transported to Vaughan Regional Medical Center.
As of Monday, August 24, authorities have not determined if the two incidents are related, and no suspects have been named or arrested. The Criminal Investigation Division is currently gathering evidence and seeking witnesses.
