Selçuk Mızraklı released from Edirne Prison after seven years

Selçuk Mızraklı, the former Co-Mayor of Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality, has been released from Edirne Prison following approximately seven years of detention. Mızraklı, who was elected in 2019 under the HDP before being removed from office by the Ministry of Interior and replaced by a trustee, was serving a sentence for membership in an armed terrorist organization.

Upon his release, Mızraklı was met by family and DEM Party officials. He emphasized the need for democracy, transparency, and a sincere peace process in Turkey, stating that the country is at a critical turning point. He also expressed his support for Selahattin Demirtaş, noting that Demirtaş should have been released before him.

Following his release, Mızraklı planned a series of visits, including meeting with writer İsmail Beşikçi and visiting the graves of Sırrı Süreyya Önder and Tahir Elçi in Istanbul, before traveling to Diyarbakır to visit his parents' graves and other notable figures.
