Selçuklu Municipality harvests cave-aged cheese in Konya

Selçuklu Municipality has completed the harvest of traditionally produced cheese aged in natural caves within the Akpınar neighborhood of Konya. The project, which began in 2023, aims to support rural development, boost the local economy, and establish the unique product as a certified brand.

The production process involves using skimmed milk prepared through traditional methods, which is then placed in skins (tuluks) to mature inside the natural caves. Selçuklu Mayor Ahmet Pekyatırmacı attended the harvest event to inspect the process, emphasizing the importance of preserving natural, non-industrial production methods over modern industrial alternatives.

The harvest program included local officials, including Selçuklu District Governor Ali Candan, and community members. The municipality intends to continue improving production conditions to encourage more local producers to utilize the cave-aging facilities.
