Selçuklu Municipality implements recycling system for Sille Dam
The Selçuklu Municipality in Konya has implemented a sustainable management system for the Sille Dam using sedimentation basins. By placing sets on the streams that feed the dam, the municipality captures approximately 15,000 tons of sand, soil, and similar materials annually. This process prevents the accumulation of sediment on the dam floor, thereby preserving the dam's water storage capacity and protecting the natural habitats of aquatic life.
The collected materials are processed at the municipality's Washing and Screening Facility, where roughly 10,000 tons are treated each year. These recycled resources are then redistributed for various municipal uses: the Department of Parks and Gardens utilizes them as playground sand, colored pebbles, and alluvial soil, while the Department of Science Affairs uses them as fill material for field operations.
Mayor Ahmet Pekyatırmacı stated that the initiative is part of a broader commitment to protecting the district's natural values and using resources efficiently to ensure a livable environment for future generations.
