Selva Mágica amusement park closes permanently in Guadalajara

The Selva Mágica amusement park in Guadalajara has permanently closed after 38 years of operation. The park, which opened in 1988, was operated by Servicios Compartidos para el Entretenimiento (Secoen).

The closure resulted in the liquidation of 175 workers. Ricardo Barbosa, the Secretary of Labor for Jalisco, confirmed that labor authorities monitored the process to ensure employees received their legal obligations. During the shutdown, several suppliers gathered outside the facility to demand unpaid service fees.

The cessation of activities is linked to financial restructuring efforts by The Dolphin Company, which is currently undergoing Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings in the United States. The park was located in the Huentitán El Bajo area, adjacent to the Guadalajara Zoo, though the two entities operate independently.

Originally a modest 4.5-hectare site focused on children, the park expanded significantly over the decades to include major attractions such as the 'El Titán' roller coaster and the 'Los Troncos' water ride.
