Selwyn Snow Resort closes season six weeks early due to warmth and rain

Selwyn Snow Resort has announced the early closure of its snow season, approximately six weeks ahead of its traditional October end date. The decision follows a challenging season marked by record warmth and recent rainfall that significantly impacted remaining snow cover.

Resort officials stated that the temperatures required for snowmaking failed to arrive, making a reopening unlikely. Meteorologists from the Bureau of Meteorology attributed the sparse snowfall and warmer temperatures to a combination of climate change and El Niño, noting that the natural snow pack is currently melting with little remaining from the winter season.
