Semana Dança Cariri International Festival begins in Ceará

The 16th edition of the Festival Internacional Semana Dança Cariri begins this Thursday in the state of Ceará, Brazil. Under the theme ‘Dançar é reescrever histórias’ (To dance is to rewrite stories), the event is organized by the Instituto de Artes Dança Cariri.

Spanning 10 days, the festival will take place in the cities of Juazeiro do Norte and Crato. The program features 28 free and accessible activities, including performances, workshops, lectures, business rounds, and artistic residencies. Participants include artists and instructors from several Brazilian states—such as Piauí, Bahia, Pernambuco, Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, and Goiás—as well as international guests from Chile and Mexico.

The opening ceremony will be held at BNB Cultural in Juazeiro do Norte, featuring visual artist Alexandre Heberte and the performance ‘Guiança’ by Ireno Júnior, Samuel Alvís, and Datan Izaká. Other scheduled performances include ‘A Rainha’ by Mara Alexandre at the Teatro Patativa do Assaré. The festival will utilize various venues, including the Teatro Luciany Maria, Centro Cultural Sérvulo Esmeraldo, and Museu Casa Mestre Aldenir, and will continue until September 26.
