Semarang and Sampang face landslide and drought issues
In Semarang, a collapsing retaining wall on Jalan Kencana Candi Raya in the Pasadena housing complex is increasingly eroding the road surface. Residents report that the landslide has expanded from 10 meters to over 20 meters due to heavy vehicle traffic. Local officials and residents have expressed concern that the damage could lead to a total loss of road access, especially with the upcoming rainy season. While community members have performed temporary cleanups and installed warning ropes, they are calling on the Semarang City Public Works Department to implement permanent repairs.
Simultaneously, in Sampang Regency, the drought is expanding into urban areas, including the Gunung Sekar district. The BPBD Sampang reports that water supplies are becoming inconsistent as primary sources diminish, forcing residents to limit water usage for cooking and bathing. The BPBD is deploying water tankers to critically dry villages, supported by private sector donations. Authorities have advised citizens to conserve water, as significant rainfall is not expected until mid-December 2026.
