Semarang Immigration deports Afghan national for visa misuse

The Semarang Immigration Office has deported an Afghan national, identified by the initials MEM, for violating the terms of his stay in Indonesia. MEM originally entered the country on a limited stay permit for postgraduate studies at a university in Semarang.

Investigations revealed that MEM completed his studies on July 30, 2025, but continued to reside in Indonesia using his student visa. Furthermore, MEM admitted to establishing a limited liability company (PT) in Demak Regency alongside his wife on November 25, 2025, where he is registered as a director. The company was intended to operate a Middle Eastern restaurant.

While MEM claimed the business was not yet operational and he had not yet earned income, immigration officials determined that serving as a founder and director is inconsistent with a student visa. MEM stated he did not intend to break the law and had established the company in preparation for applying for a different type of residency permit.
