Semarang launches electric Trans Semarang mass transit buses

The Semarang City Government has officially launched electric buses for the Trans Semarang mass transit service. The launch took place at the Semarang City Hall in conjunction with the 2026 National Transportation Day.

As part of a fleet rejuvenation program, 27 electric bus units are being introduced to replace 25 conventional diesel vehicles. These 12-meter buses, produced through a collaboration between PT VKTR and Karoseri Laksana, can carry up to 60 passengers. The initial rollout will serve Corridor I, covering the Mangkang Terminal to Penggaron Terminal route.

While two units have already begun operations, the full fleet of 27 is expected to be operational by early November 2026, with additional units being produced weekly throughout October. The initiative aims to provide more comfortable, safe, and environmentally friendly transportation options for the residents of Central Java's capital.
