Semarang Market Fire Damages 179 Kiosks, No Casualties

A fire broke out at Pasar Modern BSB in the Mijen district of Semarang, Central Java, on 26 July 2026 around 11:00 WIB. The blaze is believed to have started after a gas cylinder leaked at a soto stall and ignited a nearby stove. The flames quickly spread to surrounding stalls, affecting an estimated 179 kiosks that sell fruits, vegetables, clothing and other goods.

Four fire‑engine units and a water‑tank truck were dispatched, and the fire was brought under control about 40 minutes after the response began. No fatalities were reported, and there were no immediate reports of serious injuries. Market staff and shoppers fled the area as smoke rose, but the incident caused extensive property loss for merchants in the complex.

Local fire‑department officials, including Head of Operations Tantri Pradono, confirmed the gas‑leak hypothesis and noted that the fire was contained before it could spread to other parts of the market.
