Semi-truck accidents cause multi-vehicle crashes in Washington and Oregon
Two separate multi-vehicle accidents involving semi-trucks caused significant highway disruptions in the Pacific Northwest.
In Washington, a semi-truck experienced brake failure on eastbound SR-18 west of the SR-167 interchange. The malfunction triggered a chain-reaction crash involving seven vehicles. Washington State Patrol reported that several people were transported to the hospital, though no major injuries were reported. The incident required the closure of all lanes for several hours to allow for cleanup and emergency response.
In Oregon, a collision between two semi-trucks on eastbound Interstate 84 near Boardman led to a secondary multi-car wreck. The initial crash occurred when a Freightliner semi-truck rear-ended a merging vehicle. During the resulting traffic congestion, a Subaru rear-ended a Chevrolet Equinox at high speed, causing the Chevrolet to roll and strike a Ford F-150 and a Hyundai Elantra. One passenger was transported to Good Shepherd Medical Center in Hermiston. The driver of the Freightliner was cited for careless driving and driving with a suspended license.
