India and Taiwan advance semiconductor ecosystems through AI and manufacturing focus

The semiconductor industry is seeing significant developments in both India and Taiwan, driven by AI demand and a shift toward advanced manufacturing and packaging.

In India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to inaugurate SEMICON India 2026 on September 17 in New Delhi. The event, organized under the India Semiconductor Mission and the Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology, focuses on building a complete value chain from design to advanced packaging. India has already approved 13 semiconductor projects with cumulative investments exceeding Rs. 1.64 lakh crore, aiming to become a top global semiconductor nation by 2032.

In Taiwan, SEMICON Taiwan 2026 will focus on the theme “Transform Tomorrow,” highlighting AI-driven smart manufacturing and advanced packaging. The exhibition will introduce a Smart Fab Zone and a Silicon Startups Zone to support the growing ecosystem. Industry projections suggest that 300mm fab equipment spending could exceed US$150 billion by 2027, fueled by the need for AI chips and supply chain resilience.
