Semiconductor equipment sales hit record high amid AI demand
Global semiconductor manufacturing equipment sales reached a record high of $40.53 billion in Q2 2026, driven by sustained investment in AI infrastructure, advanced logic chips, and HBM/DRAM. This marks the ninth consecutive quarter of growth and the second consecutive quarter exceeding $30 billion.
By region, China remains the world's largest market for the 13th straight quarter, with sales reaching $11.91 billion. Taiwan has overtaken South Korea to become the second-largest market, with sales increasing 24% to $10.89 billion. South Korea saw a 54% surge in sales, totaling $9.08 billion. Other notable growth was seen in Europe (up 70%) and North America (up 27%).
In the CMOS image sensor (CIS) market, OmniVision is projected to become the world's second-largest supplier in 2025, surpassing Samsung. While Sony maintains a dominant market share, OmniVision's rise is largely attributed to the automotive sector, where it holds over 30% of the global market share and 43% of the high-end intelligent driving chip market.
