Semiconductor firms advance GaN and SiC technology for automotive and AI use
The semiconductor industry is seeing increased development in wide-bandgap technologies, specifically gallium nitride (GaN) and silicon carbide (SiC), for automotive and infrastructure applications.
Nexperia and Aurobay Technologies, a division of Horse Powertrain Ltd., are exploring a collaboration to integrate GaN and SiC technologies into automotive powertrains. This partnership aims to enhance the efficiency and compactness of electrified and hybrid vehicle platforms, building on previous successful tests of Nexperia’s GaN devices in Aurobay’s power generation systems.
Separately, Navitas Semiconductor has announced that shipments of its 5th Generation GaNFast technology will begin in September. Produced in partnership with GlobalFoundries at a facility in Burlington, Vermont, these U.S.-manufactured semiconductors are intended for use in AI infrastructure, performance computing, industrial electrification, and national security applications.
