Semiconductor industry faces talent needs and supply chain risks

The semiconductor industry faces both strategic growth opportunities and supply chain vulnerabilities. In Guatemala, Patrick Wilson of the US-Taiwan Business Council suggests the nation could compete in the sector if it doubles its number of engineers and improves investment predictability through transparency and the rule of law.

Meanwhile, in Europe, the supply chain for ASML, the Dutch lithography equipment manufacturer, is under pressure. Sindlhauser Materials GmbH, a specialized German supplier, faces potential shortages of raw materials due to Chinese export controls. These restrictions were triggered by the European Union's sanctions against Chinese entities suspected of supporting Russia's military complex. The European Union is currently negotiating with Beijing to find a solution to protect the supplier.
