Semiconductor industry shifts driven by AI demand and supply chain specialization

The semiconductor industry is experiencing significant shifts driven by AI demand. Dun & Bradstreet recently announced its 13th annual Taiwan SME Elite Awards, which for the first time included a dedicated semiconductor industry award. Out of 1,053 selected small and medium-sized enterprises, 40 received the semiconductor award, with over two-thirds focused on materials, equipment, and midstream supply chain roles. This highlights the critical role of specialized SMEs in supporting advanced chip and AI production.

On a global scale, the fabless semiconductor market is also seeing major reconfigurations. According to TrendForce data for Q2 2026, the top 10 fabless companies saw combined revenue of $141.45 billion, a 73% year-on-year increase. NVIDIA remains the dominant leader, accounting for 64% of the total revenue of the top ten companies, driven largely by massive demand for AI GPUs and data center infrastructure.

Other notable shifts include AMD rising to third place, surpassing Qualcomm, fueled by strong demand for both EPYC processors and Instinct GPUs. Broadcom maintained its second-place position with a growth rate exceeding 110%. The data suggests that AI-driven growth is expanding from direct GPU demand into broader data center computing and specialized supply chain components.
