Sony and TSMC form joint venture for advanced image sensors
Sony Semiconductor Solutions and TSMC have formalized a binding agreement to establish a joint venture named Advanced Vision Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation. Located in Koshi City, Kumamoto Prefecture, Japan, the entity will focus on the development and mass production of next-generation image sensors designed for high-end mobile devices using advanced process nodes.
The collaboration aims to secure the supply of high-value optical components and mitigate logistical bottlenecks in the semiconductor supply chain. Mass production of these sensors is targeted for 2029.
In related semiconductor market activity, SoftBank Group has significantly reduced its stake in TSMC by 71.5%, selling approximately 1.4 million shares and realizing roughly $270 million in cash. SoftBank's remaining position in TSMC consists of 565,000 American Depositary Shares.
