Seminario Tunnel Closure Extends to April 2027 Amid Maintenance Plans
A meeting chaired by Prefect Salvatore Angieri was held on 15 July at the Prefecture, attended by the President of the Province, the Mayor of Carpineti, the President of the Union of Mountain Communities of the Reggian Apennines, and representatives of the Questura, Carabinieri, Road Police, Fire Department and ANAS. The provincial administration asked that the start of the extraordinary maintenance works on the Seminario tunnel of state road S.S. 63 be postponed, warning of possible impacts on local economic and tourism activity.
ANAS officials replied that a postponement to September could not be granted because fire‑safety regulations require the works to begin before the security devices expire on 7 August. A joint inspection was carried out on 16 July 2026, followed by the signing of a convergence protocol in Bologna on 21 July 2026 that defined the responsibilities of ANAS and the municipalities. ANAS will maintain the alternative route, replace vertical and horizontal signage, install margin devices and provide winter ice‑prevention and snow‑removal services. The municipalities will issue traffic ordinances, monitor flow and support road fluidity. An emergency corridor for rescue vehicles has been established, activatable on request.
The traffic ban in the Seminario tunnel will remain in force until 30 April 2027, with vehicles diverted to a longer alternative route. The route may be shortened once the municipality of Carpineti confirms the final plan.
