Semmelweis University clinic faces patient panic over infection rumors
Panic has spread among patients at the Semmelweis University (SOTE) No. 1 Obstetric Clinic in Budapest following rumors of a spreading infection. Several pregnant women reportedly left the facility of their own accord, fearing for their health and the safety of their babies.
Patients claimed that a ward was closed and that an infection, potentially spread through droplets, originated from a patient admitted with a urinary tract infection. While patients reported a lack of official communication from hospital staff, Semmelweis University has issued a response stating that mothers and infants are safe and that there is no infection risk at the clinic.
