Semmelweis University ranks in world top 50 for pharmaceutical sciences

Semmelweis University has achieved a significant milestone in the 2026 ShanghaiRanking’s Global Ranking of Academic Subjects, placing 44th globally in pharmaceutical sciences. This represents a substantial rise from its previous ranking in the 51–70 range, surpassing institutions such as the University of Pennsylvania, Imperial College London, and KU Leuven.

The university also demonstrated strong performance in other medical fields. It ranked within the top 200 globally for dentistry (187th), medical technology (197th), and clinical medicine (151–200 range). In biology, it placed within the 201–300 range.

Within Hungary, Semmelweis University is the highest-ranked institution across six of its seven relevant subject areas. It holds the top position in the Central and Eastern Europe region for both pharmaceutical sciences and dentistry, and shares the top position in clinical medicine. Other major Hungarian universities, including the University of Debrecen, the University of Pécs, and the University of Szeged, were ranked in the 301–400 range.
