Semperoper Dresden stages Verdi’s Un ballo in maschera

The Semperoper Dresden has staged a production of Giuseppe Verdi’s opera ‘Un ballo in maschera,’ featuring the Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden under the musical direction of chief conductor Daniele Gatti. The production marks the directorial debut of internationally acclaimed singer Angela Denoke, who focused on a faithful interpretation of the original work by Verdi and librettist Antonio Somma.

The performance featured prominent vocalists, including Francesco Meli as Riccardo, noted for his nuanced tenor and dramatic portrayal, and German Enrique Alcantara as Renato, whose performance of the aria ‘Eri tu’ was highlighted as a dramatic peak. Nicole Car performed the role of Amelia, while the cast also included Rosalia Cid, Yulia Matochkina, and others. The production explores themes of jealousy, love, and betrayal set against the backdrop of a masked ball.
