Sempre-Vivas National Park preserves biodiversity in Minas Gerais
The Sempre-Vivas National Park, located in the center-north of Minas Gerais within the Espinhaço Mountain range, serves as a critical conservation area for biodiversity. The park covers approximately 124,555 hectares across the municipalities of Diamantina, Buenópolis, Olhos d’Água, and Bocaiúva.
The region is notable for hosting around 60 species of ‘sempre-vivas’ flowers, a family of resilient plants that maintain their color even when dried. It is estimated that over 100 species of this family exist within the park's limits, with eight considered rare and five currently threatened with extinction. The park sits at the border of the São Francisco and Jequitinhonha river basins.
