Semtle releases Hunminjeongeum, a Korean-language programming language

Software startup Semtle has officially released ‘Hunminjeongeum’, a programming language and dedicated Integrated Development Environment (IDE) designed to use Korean sentence structures. The language allows developers to create iPhone and Android apps, PC programs, and servers using natural Korean phrasing, making code more readable and intuitive.

Developed by KAIST student and Semtle CEO Oh Hyun-woo, the project began in 2022 and was revitalized by advancements in artificial intelligence. The company has already utilized the language to build ‘Hyeonmunhyeondap’, an iPhone app for real-time travel inquiries, where both the app interface and server code were written in Hunminjeongeum. To ensure reliability, Semtle has released verification data and a compiler built using the same language.

In addition to the programming language, the company recently launched an AI work tool called ‘Semtle Madi’ and plans to introduce ‘Madi Code’ for direct folder-based PC workflows.
