Semyon Varlamov secures first NHL win in two years
Semyon Varlamov earned his 290th career NHL victory as the New York Islanders defeated the Nashville Predators 4-3 in a shootout. The win marks Varlamov’s first official victory in 712 days, following a period that included two partial knee replacements and extensive rehabilitation.
The Islanders held an early 3-0 lead with goals from Anthony Duclair and Brayden Schenn, but Nashville staged a comeback to tie the game in the second and third periods. The game proceeded to a shootout, where Bo Horvat and Kyle Palmieri converted their attempts to secure the win for New York.
Varlamov made 20 saves during the contest, providing a significant performance for the Islanders' goaltending rotation. The victory also ends a long drought for the franchise in Nashville, with the team's last win in the city occurring in 2017.
