Sen. Elissa Slotkin warns Trump may create security incident to deploy federal troops to polls

Senator Elissa Slotkin (D‑Michigan) told MSNBC that President Donald Trump is pursuing an “authoritarian playbook” that could culminate in a manufactured security incident, prompting uniformed military or federal law‑enforcement officers to be sent to polling places. Slotkin said Trump’s repeated attacks on mail‑in voting, voting machines and the 2020 election are part of a broader strategy to undermine confidence in the upcoming midterm elections.

She warned, “The president is using an authoritarian playbook… it culminates in him creating a security incident that requires uniformed military or federal law‑enforcement to go to the polls, to surround polls, to collect ballots or voting machines.” Slotkin linked the rhetoric to recent speeches in which Trump revived debunked claims of election fraud and alleged foreign interference, suggesting the goal is to set the stage for possible federal intervention in the November vote.
