Sen. John Fetterman Mulls Party Switch Over Israel Stance

Senator John Fetterman of Pennsylvania said he would leave the Democratic Party if the party adopts an anti‑Israel platform, marking his first public condition for a party change. The move follows growing tension with Democratic colleagues over his pro‑Israel positions, his joint fundraising effort with Republican Sen. Dave McCormick, and criticism that his stance may aid Republican candidates in battleground races. A Quinnipiac poll shows only 19 % Democratic approval for Fetterman, while 52 % of all voters say he should exit the party.

During a campaign event, Michigan Senate candidate Abdul El‑Sayed threatened to “primary” Fetterman, using the phrase “ogre on a pike.” Fetterman responded with a sarcastic remark, preferring to be “Senator Shrek than Pontiac Platner.” The exchange drew condemnation from other Democrats and highlighted internal party friction ahead of upcoming primaries.
