Sen. Susan Collins (R‑Maine) met with Acting ICE Director David Venturella to press for rapid deployment of body‑worn cameras after the July 13 shooting of Johan Sebastián Durán Guerrero in Biddeford, Maine. ICE had previously ordered cameras but only enough for about half of its officers, and none were issued to the agents involved in the Biddeford stop.

Collins secured $20 million for the cameras in the Department of Homeland Security appropriations bill signed on April 30. She asked that delivery be prioritized to Maine, and Venturella agreed. The agency will begin shipping cameras to field offices next week, and all ICE agents are expected to be equipped with body cameras nationwide by the end of August, in line with a new ICE rule that requires an officer to wear a camera during any enforcement interaction.
