Senador Canedo police investigate death of 2-year-old boy in car

Police in Senador Canedo, in the metropolitan region of Goiânia, are investigating the death of a 2-year-old boy who was left inside a locked vehicle on Wednesday. The child was in the back seat of a car parked in front of a commercial establishment where his family works.

According to Military Police, the mother initially placed the child in the car to sleep with the windows open. Around 9:30 a.m., noticing the child was sweating heavily, she started the engine, closed the windows, and turned on the air conditioning to mitigate the heat. The father discovered the child unconscious around 12:30 p.m. Although the engine was still running, the refrigeration system had stopped cooling.

Emergency responders from Samu and the Fire Department attempted to resuscitate the child but confirmed his death at the scene. Forensic experts will evaluate the mechanical condition of the air conditioning system. The Child and Adolescent Protection Police Station (DPCA) is leading the investigation, and the parents are expected to provide formal statements in the coming days.
