Senamhi issues red alert for extreme heat in Peru

The National Service of Meteorology and Hydrology of Peru (Senamhi) has issued a red alert for extreme heat, with temperatures expected to reach up to 38 °C in eight regions between October 4 and 6. The affected areas include Amazonas, Cajamarca, Huánuco, Loreto, Madre de Dios, Pasco, San Martín, and Ucayali.

In addition to high temperatures, the forecast includes low cloud cover, increased ultraviolet radiation, and wind gusts of approximately 55 km/h, particularly in the afternoons. Senamhi has advised the population to use sun protection, such as wide-brimmed hats, sunglasses, and sunscreen, to mitigate UV exposure.

Regarding the regional and municipal elections on October 4, weather conditions will vary across the country. The northern coast may see temperatures up to 35 °C, while Tumbes and Piura are expected to experience moderate to heavy rainfall. In Lima and Callao, lower cloud cover is anticipated, though light drizzle may occur in southern sectors. The central and southern highlands, as well as parts of the jungle, may also face localized precipitation and electrical storms.
