Senamhi issues red alert for heatwave across 21 Peruvian regions

The National Service of Meteorology and Hydrology (Senamhi) has issued a red alert for 21 regions in Peru due to an extreme heatwave. Temperatures are expected to reach up to 35°C on the northern coast, while the central coast may see highs of 29°C. The alert remains in effect until Monday, October 5.

In addition to high temperatures, the forecast includes wind gusts of up to 40 km/h and increased ultraviolet radiation due to low cloud cover. Some areas on the northern coast may also experience scattered rainfall. These meteorological conditions are linked to the El Niño Costero phenomenon.

Affected regions include Lima, Callao, Áncash, Arequipa, Ica, Junín, La Libertad, Lambayeque, Piura, Puno, Tacna, and Tumbes. In the northern highlands, maximum temperatures could reach 32°C, with Sunday potentially seeing highs of 33°C.
