Senasa corruption investigation: Prosecutors seek extension
The Dominican Republic's Ministry of Public Prosecution has requested a four-month extension to continue its investigation into a corruption network involving the National Health Insurance (Senasa). The case involves the alleged embezzlement of billions of pesos and includes Santiago Marcelo F. Hazim Albainy and several other individuals.
Deputy Prosecutor Wilson Camacho stated that the extension is necessary to ensure all participants in the scheme are identified and brought to justice. Camacho noted that during interrogations, one of the accused claimed that “corruption was the norm” within Senasa.
The hearing to decide on the extension was postponed to September 4, 2026, due to the death of a family member of one of the lawyers. Additionally, the court maintained the arrest warrant for defendant Ada Ledesma following a request from her defense to vary her precautionary measures.
