Senasa establishes first sanitary framework for Argentine pisciculture

Argentina's National Service for Agri-Food Health and Quality (Senasa) has introduced the country's first sanitary framework for commercial pisciculture. Through Resolution No. 793/2026, the agency established minimum biosecurity and good aquaculture practice standards for fish production facilities intended for human consumption.

The regulation covers all stages of the production cycle, including reproduction, incubation, nursery, and fattening. It applies to facilities located on land as well as those situated in continental waters—such as rivers, lakes, and reservoirs—and maritime environments, specifically addressing requirements for floating cages.

Under the new rules, establishments must register with the National Sanitary Registry of Agricultural Producers (RENSPA), adhere to animal welfare standards, and employ an Accredited Aquaculture Technician. To support this, Senasa will offer an accreditation course via its virtual classroom starting in October. The measures aim to boost the development of the national fish farming sector and facilitate access to international markets.
