Senasa implements new protocols for foot-and-mouth disease vaccination and animal identification
The National Service for Agri-Food Health and Quality (Senasa) has introduced new regulations regarding foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) control and animal identification in Argentina.
Under Disposition 27/2026, producers can now freely choose accredited private veterinarians for FMD vaccination campaigns. This process is managed through the SIGTrámites self-service system. Producers must designate their chosen veterinarian via a sworn statement between October 15 and December 15 annually. Once a veterinarian accepts the designation, they become responsible for both systematic and strategic vaccinations for the establishment. Additionally, entities storing FMD and brucellosis vaccines must register as “Cold Storage” facilities.
Furthermore, Resolution 898/2026 authorizes local sanitary entities and anti-FMD foundations to distribute electronic identifiers and provide placement and reading services. These entities can purchase devices from registered providers to deliver to producers, ensuring animal origin data is transmitted to the sanitary system. This measure aims to strengthen the meat supply chain by linking individual identification with animal movements and processing plants.
