Senasa introduces new equine and feedlot regulations in Argentina

The National Service for Agrifood Health and Quality (Senasa) has introduced new regulations for the livestock and equine sectors in Argentina. Under Resolution 831/2026, all horses being moved must be identified with an injectable electronic microchip, a requirement set to take effect on March 1, 2027. The microchip must be placed in the middle third of the left side of the animal's neck, and the identification will be linked to the animal's health data in the Integrated Animal Health Management System (SIGSA).

Additionally, Senasa has simplified the registration process for feedlots through Disposition DNSA N. ° 26/2026. The new measure removes the requirement for feedlots to present territorial use and environmental suitability certificates to the national agency, as these matters fall under provincial or municipal jurisdiction. While this streamlines national sanitary registration, it does not replace the need for local permits or existing sanitary requirements such as RENSPA registration and infrastructure verification.
