Senasica blocked 2,371 shipments with pests in Mexico
Mexico’s National Service for Agrifood Health, Safety and Quality (Senasica), under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, prevented the movement of 2,371 shipments containing pests and diseases of quarantine importance between July and September 2026.
This enforcement resulted from 1,430,293 inspections of plant and animal cargo. Senasica operates a network including 259 Verification and Inspection Points, 163 inspection sites, and 108 itinerant inspection routes.
During a national meeting in Oaxaca, Senasica acting director Javier Calderón Elizalde emphasized that intergovernmental coordination is essential to ensure goods comply with sanitary regulations. He noted that protecting agrifood production helps maintain food supplies, supports jobs, and protects Mexico’s access to international markets by preventing sanitary threats that could trigger trade restrictions.
