Senate President’s office clarifies wife’s National Assembly visit

The Office of the Senate President has dismissed reports claiming that Mrs. Ekaette Unoma Akpabio, wife of Senate President Godswill Akpabio, visited the National Assembly chamber for spiritual purposes. The office clarified that the Saturday visit was strictly administrative and conducted at the Senate President’s direction.

According to Dr. Jibril Lawal Tafida, the Special Adviser to the Senate President, the visit was intended to inspect malfunctioning facilities and assess the quality of work performed by contractors following complaints from senators and staff. The office denied claims that the group included spiritualists or marabouts, stating that Mrs. Akpabio was accompanied by professional electrical engineers, ICT and audio-visual technicians, and building maintenance specialists.

The visit was scheduled for a Saturday to avoid interfering with regular legislative proceedings and plenary sessions. Officials emphasized that the inspection was authorized by relevant authorities and did not breach any security protocols, describing the rumors of spiritual cleansing as misinformation intended to create controversy.
