Senatobia police officer resigns after fatal shooting of 1-year-old

Hunter Foster, a police officer in Senatobia, Mississippi, has resigned following the release of body-camera footage showing the fatal shooting of 1-year-old Kohen Wiley. The footage, released by the Mississippi Department of Public Safety, depicts Foster running from a Walmart after being notified of alleged shoplifters.

Attorneys for the Wiley family stated that Foster was the only officer among five to step directly in front of the vehicle with his weapon drawn. According to the family, Foster aimed his gun at the car within 13 seconds of the encounter. The incident occurred on June 14 after Vellesiya Wiley and Latoya Ferrell were accused of stealing diapers; however, they were not charged with shoplifting or any crime related to using a vehicle against law enforcement.

While Foster is no longer with the Senatobia Police Department, attorneys noted that he may not face legal charges related to the death of the infant.
