Senatobia Police Officer Resigns Following Fatal Shooting of Toddler

Hunter Foster, a police officer in Senatobia, Mississippi, has resigned from the Senatobia Police Department following the release of body-camera footage showing the fatal shooting of one-year-old Kohen Wiley. The incident occurred on June 14 in a Walmart parking lot after officers responded to a report of alleged shoplifting.

While Mississippi Attorney General Lynn Fitch ruled the use of deadly force was justified and cleared Foster of criminal wrongdoing, the released video has drawn intense scrutiny. The footage shows Foster firing at a moving vehicle within 13 seconds of the encounter. Attorneys for the Wiley family, including Ben Crump, have challenged the ruling, citing an independent autopsy that suggests the fatal shot came from the side of the car.

In addition to Foster's resignation, interim police chief Angelica Maze has also stepped down. The child's family is calling for a federal investigation by the Department of Justice and is seeking to have Foster decertified to prevent him from working in law enforcement elsewhere.
