Senator Arturo Squella Calls for Full Privatization of Correos de Chile

Senator Arturo Squella, leader of Chile's Republican Party, renewed calls to sell the state‑owned postal operator Correos de Chile. He argued the company "does not need any state share" and said public firms "mostly do not work well," referencing his earlier proposal to privatize copper miner Codelco and criticism of broadcaster TVN.

Squella said Correos, despite its historic role and large workforce, has a business model that "doesn't make much sense" and would need modernization that cannot occur while it remains public. He proposes a full sale with no government stake, sparking renewed debate over the efficiency of public enterprises and the potential impact on employees and national logistics.
