Senator Bill Cassidy denounces Trump's MMR vaccine order

President Donald Trump has issued an executive order requiring the measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) vaccines to be administered as three separate single-disease shots rather than a combined dose. Trump defended the move, claiming the combined vaccine could be 'quite lethal' and comparing it to a 'nuclear weapon,' while asserting that the change would cause no harm.

Republican Senator Bill Cassidy, a physician and chair of the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions, has strongly denounced the order. Cassidy labeled the president's claims as 'crazy' and 'stupid,' arguing that the policy is counterproductive. He noted that the change would increase the burden on families by requiring six doctor visits instead of two, potentially leading to lost income for parents and higher insurance premiums due to increased medical visits.

Medical experts and immunologists have stated there is no scientific basis for splitting the vaccine. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) continues to support the combined MMR approach. Additionally, Merck, the developer of the combined vaccine, ceased production of the individual shots in the U.S. in 2008.
