ICE conducts mass immigration sweeps in Danbury, Connecticut

Federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents have conducted a series of mass immigration sweeps in Danbury, Connecticut, resulting in the detention of approximately 50 individuals. The operations, which occurred during the start of the school year, took place in public areas including parks, apartment buildings, and near school bus stops.

Connecticut officials, including Governor Ned Lamont, Lieutenant Governor Susan Bysiewicz, and Senator Chris Murphy, have condemned the tactics. Bysiewicz described the actions as “domestic terrorism” intended to intimidate communities, noting that agents reportedly wore masks and failed to display identification. Senator Murphy highlighted reports of parents being arrested at bus stops immediately after dropping off their children, causing significant trauma to students.

Local advocates reported that the arrests have impacted dozens of families. Meanwhile, the Department of Homeland Security stated that ICE agents were addressing “public safety threats,” noting that at least four of those detained had prior convictions for violent crimes. This surge in enforcement comes amid nationwide data showing a significant increase in ICE arrests during June and July.
