Senator Chris Murphy dismisses illegal immigration concerns as a ‘fake problem’

Connecticut Senator Chris Murphy has dismissed concerns regarding mass illegal immigration as a “fake problem.” In an interview with The CT Mirror, Murphy argued that the notion of the country being physically at risk due to the presence of undocumented individuals is not a real issue.

Murphy claimed that undocumented immigrants commit crimes at lower rates than native-born Americans, stating, “If you want to live in a safe community, you are actually better off living in a community with people that just got to the United States of America.”

These comments follow reports regarding the impact of migration on urban centers. For instance, a September 2025 report by Documented noted that New York City received more than 220,000 asylum seekers and immigrant families over a three-year period, placing significant pressure on local education and infrastructure.
